Constantine woman sentenced to prison

A Constantine woman was sentenced to prison in relation to a case of first-degree child abuse.

Angel Rickett was sentenced to eight to 40 years after she pled guilty to the charge in October.

Rickett, 20, and Derek Allen Lamere, 26, the parents of a seven-month-old child, were facing the abuse charges after being arrested by Constantine police. Officers were notified by Three Rivers Health emergency room staff members that a child in their care had likely been abused by her parents.

Hospital staff said Rickett told them the girl had fallen off a couch and onto

the floor at her apartment at 200 Meadow Lane, Elm Tree Apartments, in Constantine.

The medical staff indicated the girl’s injuries were not consistent with the mother’s version of what occurred.

Rickett eventually confessed that she had become upset with the child and shook her so violently, that the back of her head struck a wall. Officers also learned Rickett had slapped the child in the face.
