Two arrested following high-speed chase

Two Edwardsburg residents were arrested last week following a high-speed pursuit in St. Joseph County.

Sheriff Brad Balk said deputies on patrol at 7:45 p.m. Friday attempted to stop a vehicle for an equipment violation on U.S. 131 in Park Township. The vehicle failed to yield and continued at a speed in excess of 100 miles per hour into Fabius Township and the city of Three Rivers.

Stop sticks in place at M-60 and Roberts Road successfully pierced the tires of the car, which was found crashed into a ditch on Shaffer Road near Drummond Road. A K-9 officer tracked a scent through a wooded area and to a swamp.

An area resident, meanwhile, called central dispatch to advise a man, woman and two children showed up at their residence and asked for help.

Deputies arrived to the scene and identified the 24-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman as the driver and occupant in the car.

They were charged with fleeing and eluding, resisting and obstructing, child abuse and a number of driving-related violations, according to authorities.
