Colon plans Christmas celebration

The 11th annual Christmas in Colon will be celebrated this weekend.

Sponsored by the Colon Area Chamber of Commerce, Christmas in Colon will feature activities, food, attractions, music and holiday cheer starting today and concluding Saturday.

Pam Gilbert, chamber president, said one change this year will be Santa at the Colon Township Library, 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday instead of the gazebo at Colon Community Park.

In addition, the usual Friday night parade will instead be a lighted parade at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Friday’s events begin with the community tree decoration at 3:30 outside Colon Township Library. Downtown businesses will offer food, music, giveaways and other attractions 5 to 8 p.m. The American Legion will also host a chili cook-off that anyone is welcome to enter.

There will be a number of vendors at Colon Elementary, hat-and-glove giveaway at Curly’s, and Santa’s workshop at the library.

Saturday includes vendors at Colon Elementary 1 to 5:30 p.m., a 5 o’clock magic show at the American Legion, the downtown parade at 6 o’clock, and a Christmas concert at the Methodist Church. It starts at 7 p.m.
