Out and About – Week of December 23rd

It’s Christmas 2019. You still have time to get out and pick out those last minute Christmas gifts. Growing up, this is the time my family would gather around the Christmas tree and open our gifts. As a child, I received an allowance of thirty-five cents a week. To earn this, I was at my mother’s beckon call when it came to helping around the house. For Christmas, I purchased powder puffs for my two sisters and combs for my two brothers. It was a big deal for me to give these gifts. I was truly blessed to have siblings who appreciated them. I don’t think you can find powder puffs anymore.

Six ways to make people admire you:

Have a firm handshake.
Look people in the eye.
Be the first to say, “Hello”.
Wear polished shoes.
Buy whatever kids are selling on card tables in their front yards.
Write “thank you” notes promptly.
On Tuesday, December 3, we were privileged to attend a concert at Centerpoint Church in Kalamazoo. Titled “Christmas in Kalamazoo”, the concert featured the talents of the Kalamazoo Ringers, Kalamazoo Youth Jazz Orchestra, and the Kalamazoo Male Chorus. It was one of the most entertaining ninety minutes I’ve experienced in a long time. Each group had their special time in the spotlight and they joined together several times for selections that fueled the spirit of Christmas in everyone in attendance. The thing that impressed me the most was that there was so much animation in the faces of the performers. There was no doubt in my mind that they truly love music and enjoy performing. In talking with a member of the Male Chorus, he reassured me that if you love what you do, it will show in your performance.

I highly recommend attending any performance by these performers. Here is some contact information you might want to jot down:

Five things to add to your bucket list:

Learn to make great chili.
Own a great stereo system.
Learn to play a musical instrument.
Drink champagne for no reason at all.
Teach some kind of class.
There are two blood drives coming up before the end of the year. Grace Healthcare will host a drive this Thursday, December 26. Grace Healthcare is located at 55378 Wilbur Road, just north of Three Rivers. Hours of donation are from 11 AM until 3:45 PM. Probably the last American Red Cross blood drive of the year will be hosted by Immaculate Conception Church, 601 South Douglas, in Three Rivers on Tuesday, December 31. The hours of donation are from 11 AM until 3:45 PM. What a wonderful way to end out 2019.

I wish each and every one of you a very Merry Christmas and I’ll see you Out and About!
