Out and About – Week of December 9th

A few ways to feel better about yourself:

Be forgiving of yourself and others.
Floss your teeth.
Return all things you borrow.
Treat everyone you meet like you want to be treated.
I love to watch movies, but I usually wait until they come out on cable, rather than go to a movie theater. The reason for not going to a theater is mainly the cost. For two people to go out to a movie, after paying admission and refreshments, you will spend about forty dollars. In my mind, you just can’t watch a movie without popcorn and a cold drink.

Just before Thanksgiving, we ventured out to see the movie “Midway”. We attended the afternoon matinee in the middle of the week. The opening Friday, the theater was packed. When we attended the showing, there were three of us in the theater. A week later, we went to see Tom Hanks in “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood”. We again attended a midweek matinee and paid the Senior Citizen admission. This time, there were at least ten others joining us. Both movies were outstanding and I highly recommend making the time to go see them. I also recommend giving movie theater gift cards for Christmas. The Three Rivers Six has them on-hand. Admission prices are not that bad, but you might want to start saving your money for the concessions. Gift cards will also cover the cost of concessions. Three Rivers Six is a great venue and they have movies for all ages.

The Animal Rescue Fund (ARF) enjoyed a great turnout for their recent Pet Pictures With Santa fundraiser. With the donations received, they will be able to provide food for those neglected pets here in St. Joe County. There is always a need for pet food here in the county. In order to keep the pet food pantry properly stocked, ARF has already started their annual Pet Food Drive. The TSC store here in Three Rivers has graciously volunteered to host this annual event. There are only two weekends left to stock the pantry. ARF goes through literally tons of pet food every year. During the weekends of December 13-15 and 20-24, you will be able to purchase a small bag of dog or cat food at a discount for this emergency pet food program. The hours for purchasing are from 11 AM – 5 PM each day. You never forget your children at Christmas time and real pet owners consider their pets as their children. The warm and fuzzy feeling you receive from helping helpless animals is just a bonus for your generosity.

LED bulbs are becoming more and more popular everyday. LEDs have a number of advantages over conventional incandescent bulbs:

Higher energy efficiency.
Improved light quality.
Average rated life of up to 50,000 hours or more.
One might ask, “What does “average rated life” mean? Average rated life is the life expectancy in hours based on laboratory tests of a sample set of bulbs. For instance, if 100 lamps are tested and 50 of them fail at 10,000 hours, than their average rated life would be 10,000 hours. More on this next week.

Today is Human Rights Day. We all have rights, but they end when they infringe on the rights of others.

See you Out and About!
