Clarence Richard “Dick” Cook, age 86, of Mendon, passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2020 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo surrounded by his family.
Clarence was born December 26, 1933 to Rex and Gladys (Henry) Cook. On April 26, 1963 he married Patricia Ann Dane who stills survives.
He worked most of his life as a truck driver, retiring from Fastener Coatings of Three Rivers.
Dick was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who adored his grandchildren and was very proud of each and every one of them.
His passion in life was horses, which he not only purchased for his grandchildren, he then built the carts they drove them in. He much-loved watching the grandkids compete in 4H. Dick showed the horses himself at the local county fair and various parades around St. Joseph County. Other passions for him were wood working and puttering around his yard and garden.
The oldest of 9 children he leaves behind brothers: Leo (Betty) Cook, Robert (Kaye) Cook, Dave Cook, and Roger (Marion) Cook. Sister Florence (Duane) Holroyd; also, brother and sister in Law Glen and Pat Dane and brother in law Lewis Matice.
He is preceded in death by his parents Rex and Gladys Cook, daughter Debra Bruystens, brothers Raymond Cook and his wife Mary, Ronald Cook and his wife Beatrice, Sister Beverly Matice, and sister in law Nancy Cook.
Also surviving to cherish his memory are his wife Pat Cook, daughters Brenda (Mark) Lewis, Sandy Cook and her companion Robert Grimes and son in law Millard Bruystens. His grandchildren Denis and Phillip Bruystens, Brian and Cory Wiggins, and Cassie Lewis, great grandchildren plus many nieces and nephews.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation will be conducted. No service is planned.
It is suggested that memorial contributions be directed to St. Joseph County Animal Control for the construction of the new Animal Control Building. Condolences may be directed to the family at eickhofffuneralhome.com.
