Harriett B. Chaffee, age 92, of Elkhart, formerly of Jones, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Elkhart General Hospital. She was born February 9, 1927 in South Bend, a daughter of Otto and Helen (McBain) Everman. She graduated from Niles High School in 1945. On July 3, 1954 she married Brady F. Chaffee. He preceded her in death on January 28, 2006. Harriett worked at Simplicity Pattern Company and later cared for her family and home. She enjoyed quilting and sewing, making all her clothing.
Surviving are daughters Judith (Patrick) Malone, Niles; Teresa (Ken) Blazier, Elkhart; Cathy Sherck, Elkhart; Tammy (Tom) Smith, Jones; sons Brady Chaffee, Jr., Vandalia; LaRoy Dale (Teri) Chaffee, Jones; daughters-in-law Pam Chorba, Shipshewana; Janet Fritsche, Elkhart; 21 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren; and brothers Ernest; Ralph and Keith.
Harriett was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons George Chorba; Mike Chaffee; granddaughter Bernita Chaffee; daughter-in-law Phyllis Chaffee; sisters Dorothy; Dena; and brother Lester.
Relatives and friends will be received Wednesday from 4 to 7 PM at Eley Funeral Home in Constantine, where funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 PM. Pastor Rick Pirtle of Riverview General Baptist Church of Elkhart will officiate. Memorials may be directed to Pet Refuge, Inc. of South Bend.
