An Elkhart resident died in a two-vehicle, head-on collision Wednesday in Constantine Township.
Sheriff’s deputies were called around 7 p.m. to the intersection of U.S. 131 and Riverside Drive. Investigators said a vehicle occupied by three Elkhart residents turned southbound off Riverside Drive into the northbound lane.
The pickup in which they were riding was struck by a northbound semi driven by a 64-year-old Goshen man, authorities said. The semi driver attempted to avoid the oncoming vehicle by swerving into the southbound lane, but was unable to miss the pickup.
The pickup’s occupants were two women, ages 27 and 31, and a 36-year-old man.
A department media release does not state which of the three died in the collision. The survivors were transported to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo. The semi drive was not injured.
Authorities noted that alcohol may have been a factor in the incident.
