Out and About – Week of January 27th

There’s something in the air because of something in the trees at a local coffee cafe on the Rocky River here in Three Rivers. In the trees are some wild berries. These berries have a special affect on the local birds. It seems that the Wax-Wing birds love these berries. In fact they love them so much that they consume enough of them to make them drunk, or buzzed. As we all know, it’s not safe or smart to fly if you’re high, but then you can’t really fly unless you’re high enough so as to avoid objects close to the ground. Anyway, these birds have been known to get so buzzed that they fly into the building and fall to the ground. If they fall correctly, they will be able to recover and fly again. Unfortunately, there are some who don’t recover, and to the members of those families, we offer our utmost condolences.

Let it be known that the coffee cafe is considering placing a small bird-size container of coffee near their trees just for the birds. This way, the birds can consume all the berries they want, and if they’re smart have a few beaks of coffee before taking to the air. Please don’t make the brand of coffee for the containers Death Wish. You just don’t find this kind of news everywhere.

As promised, here are five more suggestions concerning advise to sons from dads:

When shaking hands, grip firmly and look them in the eye.
If you need music on the beach, you’re missing the point. (This can work for both boys and girls.
Be like a duck. Remain calm on the surface and paddle crazy underwater.
Experience the serenity of traveling alone.
Never be afraid to ask out the best looking girl in the room.
Here is some unsolicited advice and a few truisms. Please do with it as you wish:

A mistake that keeps being repeated is not a mistake, it’s a choice.
Correcting someone may help, but encouragement does more.
One day at a time is all we should be dealing with. We can’t go back to yesterday and we can’t control tomorrow, so live for today.
A true relationship is two imperfect people refusing to give up on each other.
Once again I am on a special diet. My goal is to lose some poundage before traveling to Florida in February. Part of almost any special diet involves consuming plenty of water. This can be difficult to do if you’re not thirsty. Consuming plenty of water is especially important as one ages. Here are some suggestions from a cardiac specialist on important times to have that tasteless liquid:

Two glasses of water after waking up helps activate internal organs.
One glass of water thirty minutes before a meal helps your digestion.
One glass of water before taking a bath will help lower your blood pressure.
One glass of water before going to bed might avoid a stroke or heart attack.
Water at bed time will also help prevent night time leg cramps. Your leg muscles are seeking hydration when they cramp and wake you up with a Charlie Horse.
Drinking water at a certain time maximizes its effectiveness on the body. Besides it’s one of the only things that will really quench your thirst.

A bad attitude is like a flat tire. You can’t go anywhere until you change it.

See you Out and About!
