A longtime St. Joseph County resident with deep involvement in local government has announced his candidacy for the 59th House District seat.
Allen Balog, former mayor of Three Rivers and currently the longest-serving member of the St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners, announced Tuesday he will seek the state post held by term-limited Aaron Miller.
Balog, 63, said he has had several people contact him and inquire about whether he plans to seek Miller’s seat. Balog added that he is confident he has the most experience between the two candidates who have already filed and potentially three more who have indicated they might file.
Balog is an insurance agent and was a four-year member of the Three Rivers City Commission before he joined the county commission.
The primary election is in August.
