Life sentence for Theron Hunt

Theron Hunt will spend the rest of his life in prison without the possibility of parole.

On Jan. 15, Hunt, was found guilty of felony murder in the November 2018 fatal shooting of Kevin Johnson in Flowerfield Township.

On Wednesday, Circuit Judge Paul Stutesman imposed the mandatory sentence.

Johnson died when three Dowagiac residents went to the Flowerfield Township home of Staniela King on Nov. 15, 2018, to rob Johnson by selling him fake meth.

Kayla Cheney, 24, said she accidentally pulled the trigger on a pistol-grip 12-gauge gun the three had in their possession. She is serving a 25- to 75-year sentence after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in a plea bargain. The man who took the gun to the robbery, Tyler McNeil, 22, is serving 12 to 60 years in prison. He pleaded guilty to armed robbery as a repeat offender.
