Sturgis restaurant to close

A longtime fast-food presence in Sturgis is closing at the end of the week.

Burger King, located on South Centerville Road, will close at the end of the business day Saturday. Robert Snyder, general manager, said Tria Company of Battle Creek made the decision.

Snyder said the closure affects him and another 20 employees. Some have invested 15 years there and others more than five years.

Snyder said the Sturgis Burger King had the numbers to support staying open, including the fact that it ranked in the top five for speed of service the last three years and had the lowest employee turnover within the company.

Snyder urged community members to share their thoughts with Burger King Corporation on the closing of the Sturgis location, reminding the community this is not a move by Burger King Corporation, but by Tria Company.
