Two wells in Mendon have tested positive for PFAS at higher than screening levels, according to Paul Andriaachi, director of environmental health at Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency.
Andriaachi said it is safe to drink the water, though further investigation is underway and more samples will be taken.
He said 10 wells were sampled Jan. 3, including four just outside the village limit to the north and adjacent to a contamination site. Eight had no PFAS and four had hits for PFAS, Andriaachi said.
The state recently established health screening levels for five PFAS chemicals that will be used to determine if there is a public action or further investigation needed, he said.
Filters are being provided to the home in the township.
