A reminder to set your clocks ahead one hour next Saturday night before going to bed. A sure sign that Spring is just around the corner. Twice a year the same question crosses my mind. Why doesn’t someone do something about the semi-annual time changes? At least give us a reason to do this.
The week we spent in Florida was very relaxing, except for the time spent at the airports. I’m guilty of always wanting to be early for an event. We had reserved seat assignments, but we were still more than an hour early. Our original flight was canceled due to a mechanical problem in Florida, where our aircraft originated. We were able to get booked on a flight the next day, so we returned home and lived out of our suitcases for the night. I was hoping that this was not an omen of what might happen the rest of the week.
We did find out something positive about the TSA security people. and their screening procedures. If you are seventy-five years old or older, you do not have to remove your shoes prior to passing through security. I’m sure this is due to the fact that the older you get, the harder it is to tie your shoes.
Final five suggestions on advice mothers should give their daughters:
If you have an opinion, you better know why.
Ask for what you want. The worst they can say is no.
Fall hard and forever in love with nothing but yourself.
Reserve “I’m sorry” for when you truly are.
You are amazing! Don’t let anyone ever make you feel you are not. If someone does…walk away. You deserve better.

The Animal Rescue Fund (ARF) will conduct a Pet Nail Clinic this Saturday, March 7, from 10 AM until noon. Tractor Supply Company, 301 North US-131, in Three Rivers will host this event. If there’s anyone like me with a toenail problem, you might want to see if they’ll give you a pedicure after they take care of Fido. All donations are used to provide care for the unwanted pets here in St. Joe County.
Spring is still a week or so away, so it might be advisable to think twice about putting away any snow removal equipment. We’ve been very lucky this year when it comes to the inclement weather. I have a feeling that Mother Nature might still have a trick or two up her sleeve.
It’s been a long time since I’ve heard of a parent telling their child that it was a stork that brought them into the world. If you’re wondering where this legend originated, please read on. It seems that this legend was started in Germany and Sweden many years ago. Every spring, white storks return to Europe from their wintering grounds in Africa. Upon their return, the storks seek out various suitable nesting sites to raise their young. Most of the time, they build their large nests on high chimneys or rooftops. Because the storks return every spring, the local inhabitants believed that they brought good luck and having a stork’s nest on top of your house was a sign of good fortune, or fertility for the occupants. Rather than tell the children the true facts of life, the parents would explain that storks deliver babies and that mother needed bed rest after delivery, because she had been bitten by the bird.
