Walk for Warmth raised funds for Community Action

This year’s St. Joseph County “Walk for Warmth” collected more than $12,000.

Saturday’s annual one-mile walk was staged in Three Rivers to help low-income, elderly and disabled residents retain home heating throughout the winter.

Charles Asher, chief operating officer of Community Action, told volunteers who gathered at Carol Shippy Center, that St. Joseph County is always dependable for raising funds.

Community Action helped 41 households totaling 104 family members from last year’s walk. Forty-one percent of the households had children and 34 percent included seniors.

As part of the event, Nancy Percival of Colon was presented with a certificate and a clock for 34 years of service to the cause.
