Welding gas tanks stolen in Sturgis

The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a theft incident from a Sturgis business over the weekend.

According to a department media release, surveillance footage showed that around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, someone broke into the cage where welding gases are stored at Tractor Supply Company on M-66.

The suspect vehicle was a tan Chevrolet extended cab pickup, model year likely between 2002 and 2010. The truck was parked near the cage where tanks are stored and the suspects cut the lock on the cage. Four various-sized cylinders of Acetylene, one cylinder of Argon and one cylinder of Shielding gas were taken.

Combined value of the cylinders is almost $1,900.
