Flashing stop signs to be placed around county

The St. Joseph County Road Commission has purchased eight flashing stop signs, which will be installed later this year.

Locations planned are:

• Each of Michigan Avenue’s two, three-way intersections with Silver Street.

• Two signs at Shimmel and Featherstone roads.

• Two signs at Lutz and Dickinson roads.

• Two signs at Bogen Road and South Nottawa Street.

The road commission had applied for a safety grant to post flashing stop signs and blinking “stop ahead” signs at 10 intersections.

When the board did not receive the grant, it was decided to procure flashing stop signs for five of the county’s most dangerous intersections, at a cost of about $12,500.
