Glen Oaks board hears operations update

Glen Oaks Community College Board of Trustees was given an update on general operations from president David Devier during Thursday’s meeting.

Assembling through Zoom remote-conferencing platform, the board also took action on upcoming parking lot work as well as new curriculum and changes during their monthly meeting.

The school had previously announced graduation will not take place May 8 as originally scheduled. Devier said he’s not sure at the moment to when the ceremony will be rescheduled.

Devier added he has been frequently involved in Zoom meetings with members of the college’s task force. On this matter, Devier said the team is continuing to monitor the situation.

He said online courses are continuing, laptops have been distributed and hotspots purchased to benefit students with such needs, and registration for fall begins next week.

Regarding summer classes, he said it appears the summer session will be conducted online only. If social-distancing restrictions are lifted by then, however, students with an “incomplete” grade for the current semester would be allowed back on campus to finish their work.
