Lockport considering transfer agreement

Members of the Lockport Township Board of Trustees delayed until next month whether to approve a so-called PA 425 transfer agreement with the city of Three Rivers.

During a special meeting Monday, the five-member board fielded a significant amount of input from citizens who joined the meeting through the remote-conferencing platform Zoom.

The issue centers on a township property, the former Crocker Ltd., at 57332 N. Main St., that local businessman Jamie Clark purchased in December. The proposed 425 agreement, if approved, would result in Three Rivers providing city water. In return, the city is offering Lockport Township 3.50 mills.

Township supervisor Mark Major said the property already has sewer service.

In the end, board members agreed to continue discussion and consider a potential vote at their May 11 meeting.

Clark indicated he is upgrading the buildings and is seeking city water primarily to support newly installed fire-sprinkler systems.

Clark said he plans to rent the site for office space and distribution purposes.
