Sturgis vice mayor resigns

Sturgis city commissioners last week accepted the resignation of vice mayor and third precinct city commissioner Mark Dvorak.

In a letter to commissioners, Dvorak said circumstances in his personal life resulted in his move to a different home. Dvorak said he did not realize until he went to vote March 10 that his new residence is in the second precinct.

Commissioners appointed at-large commissioner Jon Good to complete the remainder of Dvorak’s term as vice mayor. Dvorak’s commission seat will remain open through the end of his term in October.

Commissioners voted to defer the appointment of a new commissioner until the fall election. Anyone wishing to serve for the next four-year term may file a nominating petition on or before July 21.
