Covered Bridge Days canceled

The coronavirus has claimed another community festival: Centreville’s Covered Bridge Days.

Members of the Covered Bridge Days Committee agreed Thursday to cancel the 2020 festival. Chair Vicki Allen said all pros and cons were weighed and in the end, committee members agreed they couldn’t take the risk of keeping the two-day festival on the calendar.

Covered Bridge Days was to be July 17 and 18, and would have occurred the weekend after White Pigeon Days. It, too, has been canceled for 2020.

Allen said the Covered Bridge Days Committee decided to partner with Centreville Downtown Development Authority to enhance December’s “Christmas in Centreville” event. Allen said the plan is in its infancy but the idea is to incorporate elements of Covered Bridge Days into the holiday celebration.

The St. Joseph County United Way’s “Yards, Barns and Brews,” which was earlier moved to July 17 and 18, announced it has also canceled this year’s event.
