Man sentenced for Three Rivers bank robbery

Demario Shelton, 32, of Three Rivers, has been sentenced to a minimum 53 months to 40 years prison for last year’s robbery of the Three Rivers branch of Century Bank and Trust.

Shelton was sentenced Friday by Circuit Court Judge Paul Stutesman after pleading guilty to bank robbery.

On Nov. 18, police were dispatched to the West Broadway Street location in response to a hold-up alarm. A man who was later identified as Shelton handed a teller a note demanding money. A surveillance photograph was posted by police on social media and shared by community members, who identified Shelton.

Shelton had been paroled to St. Joseph County in April 2019. He was serving 40 months to 20 years for convictions from Macomb County for a pair of 2007 home invasions and two 2008 unarmed robberies.

The St. Joseph County sentence will be served consecutively the remainder of the previous prison terms.
