McDonough made 2 phone calls to Central Dispatch following crash

The Associated Press has detailed the phone calls St. Joseph County Prosecutor John McDonough made following the single-vehicle accident in which he was involved May 11.

According to the news agency, McDonough said in the first of his two calls to St. Joseph County Central Dispatch that he experienced a coughing fit and, as a result, lost control of his vehicle. It crashed into a fence on Lovers Lane in Lockport Township and McDonough requested the services of a tow truck.

The AP said McDonough placed a follow-up phone call and indicated he was able to free his vehicle from the area, that he had discussed the issue with the property owner and he concluded that the situation was “all right.”

The dispatcher told McDonough a deputy was headed to the scene, to which McDonough replied, “OK.”

The 40-year-old McDonough has a court hearing Thursday morning. He is charged with operating under the influence.
