MDOT will soon start work on M-86 in Colon

Michigan Department of Transportation has announced work on M-86 in Colon Township will begin next week.

According to agency spokesman Nick Schirripa, the work will take place over a stretch of M-86 from Farrand Road east to Kane Road at the Branch County line.

The $987,000 project involves resurfacing the 2.2-mile stretch and includes a new concrete curb and gutter, and upgraded sidewalk ramps in the village of Colon.

Schirripa said one lane will remain open in each direction while regulators will monitor and direct traffic in one-way directions intermittently.

He said the work will be done in segments and not all at once. Schirripa noted crews will suspend work over the four-day Fourth of July weekend.

The project is expected to finish Aug. 21.
