The Three Rivers Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors voted Thursday to move the 2020 Three Rivers Water Festival to July.
Chamber director Christy Trammell said the difficult decision was made out of concern that the original dates, June 18-20, were simply too close to the current COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, the annual community celebration will be July 23-25.
Trammell said the chamber hopes that postponing the event for five weeks will allow for a safer environment. In proceeding with the new dates, the chamber will continue to watch as the coronavirus situation develops, and follow all guidelines recommended by the state and federal governments.
Sturgis Fest has been postponed to August and White Pigeon Days 2020 has been canceled. Centreville’s Covered Bridge Days festival is scheduled for July 17 and 18, though its organizers have not yet confirmed the event is for sure going to happen this year.
Why do you make an announcement like this when you have no idea when large groups will be allowed to congregate? It most certainly won’t be July.
