Cass County crash injures Vandalia man

A Vandalia man was injured in a single-vehicle accident last week in Cass County’s Calvin Township.

Sheriff Richard Behnke said deputies were called shortly after 9 a.m. Friday to Calvin Center Road, near Williamsville Street, in response to a car off the roadway.

Upon arrival, emergency personnel found a vehicle driven by Tyrone Muscat, 66, had struck a telephone pole.

Muscat indicated he had set his cruise control, looked up and his vehicle was going toward the pole. Muscat’s vehicle came to a stop about 100 feet past the telephone pole.

He was extricated from the vehicle by rescue personnel and transported to Elkhart General Hospital.

Deputies said neither alcohol nor drugs were factors in the crash. They also confirmed Muscat was wearing a seat belt.
