Centreville considers block scheduling for fall

Centreville Jr./Sr. High principal Chad Brady told school board members last week he and the school-improvement team discussed considering a block scheduling scenario.

With a four-block schedule, Brady said, students would spend more time in each class. Class sizes could be smaller and the school could open additional electives. After the semester break, students would shift to a different set of classes, Brady explained.

In an unrelated matter, the board approved changing the name of the consumer math class to personal finance and making it a graduation requirement, beginning with the class of 2023.

Also, board members approved the request for an eighth-grade trip to Washington, D.C. It is scheduled June 1-5.

Because the 2020 trip was canceled, students who had planned to attend this year will be invited to join the eighth-grade students attending next year.
