Colon road project begins

A significant road-improvement project has started in Colon Township.

Michigan Department of Transportation’s Nick Schirripa said the $1.2 million undertaking involves two state roads: M-86 from its eastward split off M-66 to the Colon village limits, and M-66 from the M-86 Colon split north to M-60.

The task will involve milling, resurfacing, chip and fog sealing, and pavement markings on 10.6 miles of roadway between the two routes.

Schirripa said the project started Tuesday and is expected to conclude Sept. 19.

He said the work will be done in sections and flaggers will be stationed at either end of the roadwork to control alternating, single-lane traffic.
