Slowly and carefully, St. Joseph County government is reopening to the public.
During their executive committee meeting Wednesday, commissioners were told by county administrator Teresa Doehring that it is time to move to Phase 2 of the county’s Preparedness Response Plan.
The step includes reopening specific departments to the public beginning Monday. She said if necessary, plans will be adjusted accordingly.
She said the county will ask anyone coming to the courthouse to wear a face covering. In addition, social distancing requirements will be asked of the public, she said.
Doehring said Commission On Aging Director Tim Stoll indicated he plans to bring some aides and drivers back next week, and administrative staff the following week.
Kevin Kane, representing the county’s courts operations, said re-opening the courts building is proceeding at a slower pace. He explained the delay is based on 14-day phasing steps. Kane said he expects it will enter Phase 2 by mid-day Monday.
A COVID policy for courts building employees has been created and they will be subject to temperature checks starting next week, Kane said, adding that masks will be required in all open spaces/common areas.
