Sturgis man sentenced in CSC case

A Sturgis man was sentenced to at least five years in prison after pleading guilty to third-degree criminal sexual conduct.

St. Joseph County Circuit Court officials said Semja Laureano, 25, was sentenced earlier this month and could serve a maximum of 15 years.

The incident took place in August 2019 at a home in Sturgis and involved a girl under the age of 15.

Laureano, who lived in the 25000 block of U. S. 12 west of Sturgis, was arrested Feb. 28 after charges were authorized.

Circuit Judge Paul Stutesman made the ruling after Laureano entered a guilty plea to one of three counts of CSC third degree. Other charges were dismissed.
