Styrofoam recycling plan continues

Westside Landfill Recycling Center is tentatively planning to continue with its quarterly Styrofoam recycling collection next week.

Fabius Township Supervisor John Kroggel, who has helped organize and oversee the collections, said he is prepared to go ahead with the scheduled June 13 collection. The only contingency, he noted, is as long as Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has lifted restrictions allowing the collection to proceed.

If so, the collection will take place 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. at 60050 Roberts Road, on the east side of the landfill.

Event organizers said all items must be clean, and free of food and food residue.

Styrofoam items accepted include dinnerware, take-out containers, meat and fish trays, egg cratons, packing materials and foam peanuts if bagged separately.

Insulation board and fire-retardant foam are not recyclable.
