Sturgis city hall will be open five days a week beginning Aug. 24.
Vice mayor Jon Good said city residents deserve to have accessibility to city hall for a full week.
For several years, city hall has been closed on Tuesdays. City manager Mike Hughes said the initial closure was an effort to save money by not filling the positions of two employees who retired.
Other employees picked up the slack and used the Tuesday period, typically city hall’s lowest-traffic day, to complete that work.
Good said the city’s economic conditions have changed for the better since then.
The building also currently has shortened hours due to COVID- 19. Commissioner Richard Bir said supermarkets and stores are opening with people required to wear masks inside, so he believes city hall can open safely.
