American Airlines suspends Kalamazoo service

Here’s an announcement from Craig Williams, director of Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport.

American Airlines last week said it plans to suspend service at AZO from Oct. 7 through Nov. 3.

In a media release issued to AZO officials, American stated the reason as low demand and the expiration of air-service requirements associated with the CARES Act.

Williams said American assured the airport that the move is temporary as they continue to evaluate markets on a monthly basis. He called American’s decision disappointing, but remains confident of its commitment to Kalamazoo County.

American carried 2,213 passengers on aircraft that were 58 percent filled in July. Passenger numbers were down 63 percent from 2019 numbers 12 months earlier.
