Crews repair gas leak in Sturgis

Gas crews and Sturgis Public Safety officials were called to the area of North Prospect and East Jerolene streets last week after a report of what was described by Sturgis fire personnel as a large gas leak.

Fire crews and gas utilities responded to the scene Friday afternoon and workers repaired the leak.

The area was closed to traffic for at least one block in each direction.

Officials said the odor of natural gas appeared to be strongest in an area east of the work zone. Electric service also was interrupted in a portion of the city, mostly on the north side, during the repair process.
