Ernest Eugene Egnew passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 27, 2020 of natural causes, surrounded by his family. Ernie was born on August 12, 1927 to Charles “Dewey” Egnew and Vera Bloom Egnew in Three Rivers. He graduated from Three Rivers High School in 1946. Ernie went to work for Fairbanks and Morse and then for the American Laundry where he was office manager. From 1951-1953 he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On July 28, 1951 he married Margie Ann Klingel at the Immaculate Conception Church in Three Rivers. After the war, Ernie worked at Weyerhaeuser Company in Three Rivers for 34 years, serving in several manager positions. For 14 years, he & Margie spent their winters in Lake Havasu, AZ.
Ernie is survived by his wife, Margie, his children: Lori (Ted) Seibert of Ridgefield, CT and Susan (Paul) Schadel of Holland, MI. He & Margie have 3 grandchildren: Emily (Roy) Miller of Elkhart, Alyson Yee (Paul Fagerstrom) of Schwarzach a Main, Germany, and Kara (Dustin) Dobernig of Kingston Springs, TN. They have 2 great-children and several cousins and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are brothers and sisters-in-law Richard and Bonnie Boughton; and David and Deanna Klingel. Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, and sister Viola (Duane) Swan.
Ernie was a life member of Elks Lodge #1248 and a long time member of American Legion Post #170. He was Past President of the American Legion Home Association and was Elk of the Year in 1990. Ernie was also a Past President of the Three Rivers Bowling Association for several years.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Bowman Place and the Hospice Team from Elara Caring for their tender care of Ernie in his final days.
Ernie was universally liked by everyone he came in contact with. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a happy disposition. He will be sorely missed by his family and all who knew him.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
