Nottawa road project ready to begin

A five-week road project in Nottawa Township is set to begin next week.

Michigan Department of Transportation’s Nick Schirripa said a five-mile section of M-86 will be resurfaced. The work will stretch from M-66 and continue west to Shimmel Road, just outside Centreville village limits.

A smaller portion of M-86 will also be included, from Industrial Parkway to Eleanor Drive in Centreville.

Work on the $646,000 undertaking will begin Monday and is expected to conclude Sept. 30.

The repaving will feature a hot-mix asphalt cold milling, resurfacing, pavement markings and corrugation replacement.

Schirripa said he is aware of the poor condition of M-86, especially in stretches between Nottawa Road and M-66. The project will improve safety and ride quality, and will extend the life of the roadway, he said.

He said motorists can expect single-lane closures at times, which will be monitored by traffic regulators.
