St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners plans to hold an in-person commission meeting next month.
During their executive committee meeting earlier this week, county administrator Teresa Doehring and commissioners targeted Oct. 6 as their first in-person board meeting since Feb. 18.
Doerhing said the spacious commissioners’ room would allow up to 35 people to attend while still safely observe social distancing.
She said the obvious question as a result is whether commission meetings should continue to be broadcast via Zoom in addition to the in-person format.
IT director Dustin Bainbridge said the option of Zoom would not be difficult to arrange, especially since the county’s courts are contemplating using the same room for jury trials. As a result, some of the same audio/video equipment and seating modifications used for court-related matters could be adapted to county commission meetings, he said.
After further discussion, commissioners decided to conduct their Oct. 6 commission meeting – and potentially subsequent commission meetings – in-person but continue to keep executive committee meetings broadcast via Zoom.
Commissioners did not resolve whether the Oct. 6 meeting will be picked up through Zoom in addition to the in-person format.
