Suspect in high-speed chase remains at large

The passenger of a vehicle involved in a high-speed chase last week in Park Township was taken into custody.

Her companion, the driver of what is being reported as a stolen vehicle, remains at large.

A department media release indicated deputies were called at 8:10 a.m. Friday to the area of Heimbach Road and U.S. 131

Sheriff Mark Lillywhite said deputies attempted stop a Ford F150 for a speeding infraction. During the pursuit, the vehicle fled southbound on U.S. 131 and continued to the area of Cowling and Mohney Lake roads, where the suspect vehicle veered into a field and became stuck.

Investigators said the driver then fled on foot. A female passenger also fled on foot but was later apprehended after authorities deployed a taser.

The male suspect was not located and is believed to have later stolen a GMC Yukon from a residence in the 14000 Block of Bullock Road in Fabius Township around 9 a.m.

That vehicle was subsequently located abandoned in Kalamazoo. Meanwhile, it was determined the original pickup was stolen out of Mecosta County. A handgun and narcotics were located in the stolen Ford pickup.

Deputies indicated they know the identity of the male suspect but are not releasing it at this time.
