Boil water notice in Lockport Township

Lockport Township officials have issued a boil water notice after the township’s water system detected the presence of coliform bacteria in its supply.

Deputy clerk Rhonda Wright said the water department office routinely monitors for the presence of drinking water contaminants and recent water samples showed the presence of coliform bacteria.

Wright advised residents to not drink tap water without boiling it first. Those who have access to bottled water should consider that as an alternative.

Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and preparing food.

Wright said residents should continue to use boiled or bottled water until further notice.

She added that the township is actively working to resolve the issue and an update will be provided as circumstances warrant.
