Pedestrian died when struck by vehicle

A 68-year-old Cass County man died after he was struck by a vehicle last week in Porter Township.

Sheriff Richard Behnke said deputies were called shortly after 7 a.m. Thursday to U.S. 12 and Union Road in the community of Union.

Investigators said a vehicle driven by Anne Lowry, 39, of Constantine, was heading west on U.S. 12 when it struck Edward Nienow, of Union.

Authorities said Nienow was attempting to cross the roadway when the collision occurred. He died at the scene.

Behnke said neither drugs nor alcohol were a factor in the incident.
