A key north-south route in St. Joseph County could be in store for some upgrades.
St. Joseph County Road Commission Engineer Garrett Myland said the potential project centers on Lutz Road. He said initial plans call for two miles from M-86 in Lockport Township south to Fairchild Road in Florence Township.
Myland said the ultimate goal is to reconstruct the nine-mile route to its southern end at U.S. 12 in White Pigeon Township. The task would be completed in segments over the course of a few years.
He referenced the potential reconstruction would be on par with Shimmel Road in terms of road quality.
Mylan further noted the cost to re-do the two mile-stretch between M-86 and Fairchild Road is more than $900,000, but a large portion would be covered through state and federal grants.
