Sturgis – Changes for holiday events

The city of Sturgis and the Sturgis Downtown Development Authority are postponing a trio of traditional holiday events due to the spike in COVID-19 cases, and the new Michigan Department of Health and Human Services restrictions.

Because of the spike, the city is canceling Christmas in the City activities that typically take place in Free Church Park. The DDA is placing a hold on the Kristkindlmarkt and Sip and Stroll events.

The Kristkindlmarkt, a traditional Christmas market which typically is set up on Pleasant Street Thanksgiving weekend, could not take place Dec. 3-5 due to restrictions limiting the size of indoor and outdoor gatherings.

Sip and Stroll, which features several stops in local businesses throughout downtown, was to take place Saturday. DDA officials said they are waiting to see if rescheduling Kristkindlmarkt and Sip and Stroll after restrictions end is feasible.
