Thomas Hunter, 72

Thomas Hunter, age 72, of Colon, passed away Friday, Dec. 11, 2020 in Kalamazoo.

He was born Feb. 3, 1948, in Desha, Ark., a son of Woodrow W. Hunter and Edna L. (Dawson) Hunter.

Thomas was a school teacher, working for more than 30 years at Colon Elementary School in Colon. He was a dedicated family man, always placing his family’s needs before his own. Thomas had a deep love and dedication for teaching. He never forgot his students and often kept in touch with them throughout the years. From a very young age, Thomas was an extreme history buff and he traveled extensively in pursuit of knowledge of the “yester” year.

Thomas is survived by a sister, Billy “Frances” (Wayne) Mattix; a brother, Wilson D. (Linda) Hunter; and many nieces and nephews.

Thomas is preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Edna Hunter; a sister, Margaret A. Lee; and a brother, Willie D. Hunter.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Dec. 16, 2020, at Marcellus Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to American Cancer Society. Online condolences may be left at www.materralstonfuneralhome.com.
