Attempted armed-robbery in Colon Township

A Sturgis man was the victim of an armed-robbery attempt last week in Colon Township.

Sheriff Mark Lillywhite said the incident unfolded around 12:30 p.m. Friday in the area of M-86 and Fairfax Road.

The 45-year-old victim told deputies he was flagged down by a subject in a Ford F-150 pickup with Illinois license plates. The vehicle was stationary alongside the roadway.

According to the victim, the man requested assistance with securing gas and the Sturgis man agreed to transport him to a service station.

The suspect, along with two other males, approached the victim, pulled him from his vehicle at gunpoint and held him down in the back seat of his vehicle while the suspects searched for money.

After locating no money on the victim, the three suspects retreated to their Ford F-150 and left the scene toward M-66. All three suspects were described as white males in their 30s.

The victim was not injured during the assault.
