Betty Barnell Brook, 88

Betty Lou Barnell Brook, age 88, of Sturgis, passed away Saturday evening January 8, 2021 at the Heartland Health Care Center in Three Rivers.
She was born August 3, 1932 in Port Huron, daughter of the late Herbert and Hazel (Talmadge) Moss.
Betty resided in Sturgis since 1956 coming from Port Huron. On January 27, 1951 she married Chester L. Barnell in Port Huron. He preceded her in death April 17, 2005.
Betty together with her husband owned and operated Barnell Quality Carpets in Sturgis for 21 years, retiring in 1991. She had also been employed by the Kirsch Company in Sturgis for 18 years.
She enjoyed playing the piano and cards and was a member of several card clubs.
Betty is survived by one daughter: Connie (Kent) Ruffo of Bradenton, Florida; one son: David (Rheta) Barnell of White Pigeon; four grandchildren: John (Kelly) Vold of Chicago, Amber (Kriston) Shank of Three Rivers, Jason (Kendra) Vold of Columbus, Ohio and Rheta Ashley (Stephen) Erts of Sturgis; eight grandchildren: Lexi, Haleigh, Kienna, Ansel, Danny, Alayna, Brooklyn and Allison and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by son-in-law: Jack Vold; her parents; husband; two sisters: Dorothy Weidenbach and Lilas Sage and one brother: Herbert Moss, Jr.
Due to the current conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic private services will be held Wednesday at the Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis. The Rev. Dr. Kurt Stevens will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis. A video recording will be available following the service at the funeral home Facebook page and website.
