Darlene May Gentry, age 80, of Three Rivers, died Sunday, January 3, 2021 at her home. She was born in Three Rivers on March 28, 1940 the daughter of Burr L. and Margaret L. (Smith) Johnson, and was a lifetime resident of the Michiana area. She was baptized at the Moorepark United Methodist Church and attended Three Rivers Schools. She worked briefly at Denton Mills in Centreville, and most recently retired from Command Electronics in Schoolcraft. Darlene was married to Robert “Sonny” Gentry on Oct. 6, 1956 in Angola. He died in October of 2009.
Darlene loved her grandkids, and her fur-baby cats. She bowled in area bowling leagues and enjoyed crocheting and reading. She looked forward to trips to the casino with her friends and regularly supported the Salvation Army.
Darlene is survived by four children, Becky Shafer of South Bend, Julie Gentry of Elkhart, Mark (Mary) Gentry of Osceola, and John (Genevieve) Gentry of White Pigeon; ten grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; sister, Jean (Nolan) Weinberg of Three Rivers; brother, Norman Johnson of Maryland; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sonny; and two sisters, Sharon Spohn and Judy Povlock.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has been conducted and no services are planned at this time. It is suggested that memorial contributions be directed to either the Salvation Army, or to the St. Joseph County Animal Shelter. Memories may be shared with the family at www.eickhofffuneralhome.com
