Jim VanAken, 62

James L. VanAken, Sr., (“Jim,” “Bumbles”), age 62, of Constantine, passed away on Monday, January 25, 2021 at Three Rivers Health. Jim was born on April 26, 1958 in Sturgis, a son of Richard and Barbara (Wakefield) VanAken.
He graduated from Constantine High School in 1976 and went on to learn the mechanics trade. In 1979, he married Penny Casselman at the Constantine United Methodist Church; they were later divorced. Jim worked maintenance for Chassix in Bristol, before retiring after 26 years. He had a passion for anything mechanical, and could fix just about everything. He especially enjoyed working on cars. What he loved most, though, was spending time with his granddaughter.
Jim is survived by his daughters April (Tom Wilson) VanAken of Centreville and Jamie VanAken of Constantine, granddaughter Lillian Hansen, brothers Terry VanAken of California and Jerry (Verna) VanAken of Missouri, special niece Jamie Kay VanAken, and several other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son James “JJ” VanAken Jr., and sister Cheryl VanAken.
Relatives and friends will be received Saturday, January 30 from 2:00-6:00 PM at Eley Funeral Home, Constantine. Social distancing guidelines will be followed and masks are required.
