Letha Goertler, 94

Letha Leone Goertler, age 94, of Leonidas, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2021 at Heartland Healthcare Center in Three Rivers. She was born in Vicksburg on Nov. 7, 1926 the daughter of C. Wayne and Clara (Briggs) Collins. After graduation from Vicksburg High School, she worked at Simpson-Lee Paper Co and Upjohn Pharmaceutical. She met and married Maurice E. Goertler on March 27, 1947 and had three children, Sharon, Robert, and Nancy. Life was raising her children and working with Maurice on the ninety-acre farm. In 1955 she was hired into the Haas Corporation in Mendon and retired 36 years later when it was known as Lear Plastics.

Letha enjoyed going to yard and garage sales, spending time with her special friends, going out to eat, and seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Later on, she found another job at Gangers in Centreville and after several years retired a second time.

Letha is survived by her daughter, Sharon Elliot and partner, David Swartz, Sr., grandchildren, Monica Hoard, Robert Goertler, Jr., and Faith Goertler; several great-grandchildren; a few great-great-grandchildren; and a cousin, Jack Collins of Vicksburg. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Clarence Collins in 1997; her son, Robert Goertler in 2001; daughter, Nancy in 2018; and a grandson, Jacob.

Funeral services will be at 1 pm Saturday, Jan. 23, 2021 at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon with Rev. David Farrell officiating, followed by burial in Leonidas Cemetery. Masks are required, and there will be a limit of 25 in attendance. A recording of the service will be available in the funeral home website later in the day.
