Local health department board approves van purchase

COVID19 Cares Act and other funding sources will allow Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency the opportunity to purchase a long-awaited mobile health van.

Board members recently approved the $150,000 bid from Tesco Transportation Equipment Sales Corp. The vehicle will be built on a 2021 Ford F-350 frame.

Health officer Rebecca Burns said the van will fill a real need but the agency has never been able to afford one.

It is designed as a mobile vaccination center. Burns further notes the opportunity will allow the agency to purchase a unit that should serve it well for years to come.

Administrative Services Director Theresa Fisher said the funds could be used as long as the title to the truck was received in 2020. She said the body will not be built until after the first of the year for delivery later in 2021.
