Repaving project planned for Stubey Road

Sturgis Township officials are preparing for a road-improvement plan.

Stubey Road north of U.S. 12 is tentatively set for repaving this year, an undertaking recently approved by township officials.

The project will involve Stubey Road north of U.S. 12, while township officials tabled a portion of the same road from Fawn River Road to the Indiana state line.

Supervisor George Morse said the project will have matching funds from the state, enabling the township to stretch its money. The Stubey Road north project is set at $147,000, with the township to contribute 50 percent.

The south portion would have cost $231,000.

Morse said interest rates, as well as the price of asphalt, currently are low and that was among considerations in the board’s ultimate decision to postpone the south end of Stubey Road.
